1. Where is GSS located, and what are the office hours?

GSS is located on the sixth floor of the Elliott School, suite 603: 

1957 E St. NW, Suite 603
Washington, D.C. 20052

The office is open from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 pm Mondays through Thursdays, and 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. 

2. How do I reset my password in Handshake?

Handshake uses Single Sign On as does GWmail and Blackboard. Your username and password are your NetID and password. If you continue to experience problems with your account, please contact GW IT Support Center at

4. How do I register for Handshake and activate my account?

Your account is automatically created by mid-July, and you will receive an e-mail welcoming you to the career database with all relevant login and procedural information. If you do not receive this welcome e-mail by mid-July, or are having trouble with your account, please be in touch with us over e-mail, at

5. What happens if I am blocked from Handshake?

An account can be blocked from full access to Handshake if one or more of the following happens; 1) You have not completed the Professional Development Action Plan (PDAP), 2) You have been listed as a 'No Show' for two GSS sponsored events or three career coaching appointments in one semester, 3) You have not submitted an approved resume. Be sure to check your account for any of these discrepancies, and please call our office at 202-994-3788 or email with any questions.

6. Do I have access to the main career center database?

All Elliott School graduate students may access the resources of the GW-wide Handshake through their Handshake accounts.

7. When I graduate, will I still have access to GSS?

Absolutely! As an alumnus or alumna of the Elliott School graduate program, you have full access to GSS's career development team for life! Most career centers charge alumni for their services, but GSS is able to help you throughout your career.

We will also encourage you to keep your Handshake profile up-to-date, be involved with GSS as an alumni mentor, and/or to represent your employer at career panels and career fairs.

8. Is GSS open during summer and winter breaks?

Yes! GSS is open, and the academic advisors and career coaches are available for the duration of the summer and winter breaks. The office is closed on federal holidays.

9. How do I order business cards?
