Professor of Economics and International Affairs Maggie Xiaoyang Chen has been selected as the winner of the 2026 Michael E. Brown Research Prize. This annual award is the foremost research prize at the Elliott School. It honors a faculty member who has made an outstanding contribution to the scholarly and policy relevant understandings of important international issues.
As a leading scholar of trade and globalization, Dr. Chen is a most-deserving recipient of this award. Her pathbreaking and pioneering work regularly informs policy debate at the highest levels--from the IMF and World Bank to the halls of US trade agencies. Moreover, Chen's use of novel micro-level data from global e-commerce platforms endures as nothing short of groundbreaking while her research on reputation remains foundational for economists’ and policymakers’ understanding of platform mediated trade.
