Joseph Larson

Joseph P. Larson III is the Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff at Anduril Industries, a defense technology company that develops and deploys cost-effective advanced and autonomous systems. Prior, Joseph was a member of the Senior Executive Service as the inaugural Deputy Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Officer, Algorithmic Warfare (DCDAO, (AW)) within the Office of the Secretary of Defense from 2022-2024. As DCDAO (AW), he led multiple warfighting autonomy, generative artificial intelligence, and machine learning infrastructure initiatives.  Prior to CDAO, Joseph led the Algorithmic Warfare Cross-Functional Team (Project Maven) from 2021-2022 as a Highly Qualified Expert at the National Geospatial Agency detailed to the Pentagon.

Prior to his work in the federal government, Larson held various private sector positions related to data, policy, technology, and national security. He was previously a Senior Director at Anduril Industries, where he led joint all-domain command and control, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and battle management. He was Head of Business Operations at Tulco Labs, a private equity firm that focuses on transforming highly regulated industries through machine learning. Additionally, he worked at Palantir Technologies as a Deployment Strategist in areas including artificial intelligence, defense, intelligence and cybersecurity. He also held an associate position as a lawyer in the antitrust practice at Sidley Austin, LLP.

Larson has also served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve for twenty-three years, where he held various roles as an intelligence officer and information operations planner. His last active-duty assignment was as the Deputy Chief of Project Maven at the Office of the Undersecretary for Intelligence and Security from 2016-2019. He is a military graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff (Distance Education Program) and is a current student at the Army War College (Distance Education Program).

Larson holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School and a B.A. from the University of San Diego.
