Career Cafes

Chatham House Rules. Connect Candidly.

Our intimate Career Cafes are designed for candid conversation with leading employers, alumni and subject matter experts.

By providing your advice and insight, you can position yourself and your organization not just as a job provider, but as a thought leader, mentor, and example for future generations of international affairs talent. Interact with a small, highly motivated group of graduate students who are serious about their careers and passionate about your work.

Career Cafes are typically 1hour and can accommodate up to 16 students.

If you are interested in sharing your experiences, insights, and inspiring future leaders, please contact Jeneva Pace at jeneva [dot] paceatgwu [dot] edu (jeneva[dot]pace[at]gwu[dot]edu). We would be happy to discuss how we can partner to help you meet your goals and objectives.

Site Visits

Your House. Your Impact

Hosting a Site Visit is the most authentic way to engage with our graduate students. Give them a behind-the-scenes look at the work you do and the impact you make.

A site visit leaves a powerful, lasting impression on students, effectively contributing to goodwill building between your organization and future leaders in international affairs. Students leave with a deep understanding of your mission, leading to more informed world views and better-fit applications. Hosting a site visit allows you to articulate your core mission and values directly, ensuring that applicants are drawn to your purpose, helping you attract candidates who are a true cultural fit, reducing turnover later.

Hosting a site visit requires a commitment of 1-4 hours and can include 10-50students.

If you are interested in sharing your experiences, insights, and inspiring future leaders, please contact Jeneva Pace at jeneva [dot] paceatgwu [dot] edu (jeneva[dot]pace[at]gwu[dot]edu.) We would be happy to discuss how we can partner to help you meet your goals and objectives.

Information Sessions

Share your Vision. Define the Future

Collaborate with us to host an information session, introducing your organization to a large, dedicated group of international affairs graduate students.

Our information sessions attract a large pool of self selected applicants from a diverse set of graduate specializations who have demonstrated interest in learning more about the pivotable role your organization plays in addressing cutting-edge issues. Showcase your organization exactly as you want to be seen—be it as an innovative tech firm, a critical foreign policy voice, or a compassionate NGO, ensuring the applicant pool is self-selected and highly aligned with your requirements.

Presentations are generally 1.5 hours with time for Q&A, include a multimedia presentation, and occur at the Elliott School.

Career Panels

Share Your Insights.

Career panels at GSS are carefully cultivated to ensure that your organization is showcased alongside other key industry players, reinforcing your status as a leader in your field.

Share your expertise, showcase your unique perspectives, and connect with a wide cross-section of students who are exploring various career paths. Discussing your opportunities and insights reinforces your organization's status as an essential, high-level organization in international affairs and your panelists can shape the career perspectives of future international affairs professionals.

Career panels are generally 1.5 hours with time for Q&A. Ideally, 3-5 panelists from a specific industry share their perspectives on the career field and their organizations.

Virtual Events

Connect from Anywhere

We understand that our partners outside of the D.C. area have invaluable perspectives to share, and we welcome you to participate in our virtual events.

GSS’ virtual events allow you to reach a variety of graduate specializations from the comfortability of your office or home. Host an information session, speak on a panel, or connect with a small group of students to discuss your organization’s insights, opportunities, and offer a perspective on industry trends, skills gaps, and future challenges, directly influencing how future leaders view the sector—and your role in it.

Career Trek

Exploring Careers Far and Wide.

Each summer, Graduate Student Services (GSS) facilitates immersive Career Treks, taking a select group of high-achieving students to New York City to engage with global industry leaders.

These treks provide a premier platform for your organization to showcase its culture and mission to a targeted audience of emerging professionals. We have previously partnered with prestigious institutions such as the World Bank, the United Nations, Bank of America, the Ford Foundation, the Eurasia Group, and the Institute of International Education. By hosting a site visit, you offer our students a firsthand look at your operations while positioning your organization as a top-tier destination for global talent.

If you are interested in sharing your "slice of New York", please contact Jeneva Pace at  jeneva [dot] paceatgwu [dot] edu (jeneva[dot]pace[at]gwu[dot]edu), who will be happy to discuss how we can best introduce our students to your organization’s work and impact.

On-Campus Presentations and Interviews

On-campus presentations, as well as interviews, provide an excellent opportunity for you to introduce students to your organization and industry, as well as meet our students. Presentations are generally one and a half hours in length, include a multimedia presentation, and occur at the Elliott School. In addition, our center has three interview rooms available for your use throughout the year.

Professional Development Seminars/Workshops

To ensure that Elliott School students are meeting your needs, GSS offers various workshops such as networking strategies and/or interviewing skills during the fall and spring semesters. Employer(s)-in-Residence

The employer(s)-in-residence program is an opportunity for senior-level industry experts to volunteer and work with Elliott School graduate students on career-related concerns.

Employer(s)-in-residence enables students to gain a unique perspective on their chosen career field directly from employers and receive individual feedback on résumés, cover letters, and/or interviewing strategies. The program also provides employer volunteers an opportunity to help prepare Elliott School graduate students for their next career move, identify potential talent for their industry, as well as give back to the Elliott School by aiding graduate students in their career development.
