Dean Reuben Brigety II address students at the 2017 Elliott School Graduation Celebration

Welcome to the Elliott School of International Affairs.

My name is Reuben Brigety, Dean of the Elliott School of International Affairs. The heart of our mission here at the Elliott School is to build leaders, leaders for the world.

Our faculty at Elliott is among the world’s best. Most of our distinguished academics are practitioners of international affairs in addition to teaching and doing research. Among their ranks are former Ambassadors, World Bank officials, consultants to influential NGO’s, Policy Think Tanks, and Presidential Advisory Councils.

Our campus here at GW provides a supportive environment that celebrates diversity. It is filled with bright, passionate students who are willing to challenge the status quo and fight for what they believe in. GW was the first University to start the No Lost Generation student group selected by the Department of State to support those affected by the global refugee crisis. Its unique location in the heart of Washington D.C. provides the opportunity to access mentorship, professional, and research opportunities that are simply not available elsewhere.

“Our fourteen degree programs for both Graduate and Undergraduate students offer rigorous multi-disciplinary curricula that prepare students for careers in international affairs across the sectors of government, international NGO’s, and the public sector.”

What makes Elliott unique is the unequalled range and depth of its research institutes. The Elliott School serves as home to five regional and six functional academic institutes; hubs for both faculty and student research. The institutes convene events, host visiting scholars, and provide fellowships and grant opportunities for students and staff. We are enriched by being part of the George Washington University, Washington D.C’s largest university. Opportunities to study at any of the University’s 10 schools including the school of public health, business, engineering, law, and the school of media and public affairs add tremendously to the student experience. At Elliott, we don’t just talk about building the leaders of the future, we do it through rigorous scholarship, innovative teaching, and by fostering ethical thinking and practical skills. Our aim is to develop students who can analyze like economists, research like historians, question like political scientists, crunch data like statisticians, and present their findings like seasoned politicians. That’s the Elliott advantage. Whether you are a current student, a prospective student, parent, or just interested in what we do here; take a look around our website, get to know us, come for a visit.  Welcome to Elliott!

Sincerely,
Reuben E. Brigety II
