As a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Associate at the Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University, Lou MacAfee (they/them/theirs) supports the shaping and executing of strategic initiatives, programs, and communications to promote inclusion. Collaborating closely with stakeholders, Lou is dedicated to cultivating a culture of belonging and respect within the institution.
Lou is a distinguished Civic Scholar, having graduated from Drew University with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Sociology. Their academic journey at Drew University included participation in the United Nations Semester, a rigorous research program where their focus was the impact of gendered language on international human rights treaties. Additionally, they participated in a transformative abroad experience at the Universitat de Barcelona, delving into the study of rising political unrest across Western Europe.
With a profound commitment to civic engagement and social justice, Lou has honed their skills in campaign management, fundraising, and event coordination through their experience in community organizing.
Lou's unwavering motivation stems from their passion for inspiring and engaging individuals in the pursuit of equity. In today's interconnected world, they firmly believe in encouraging all to reflect on their roles in DEI and as global citizens.
