Gender in International Affairs examines global issues through an intersectional feminist lens, emphasizing how gender norms and dynamics influence various aspects of international relations. It explores the diverse impacts of conflicts, peace processes, development initiatives, and policies on individuals based on their gender and other identity factors, such as ethnicity, race, and religion. It also considers the potential benefits of incorporating diverse perspectives into policymaking. 
 

Learning Objectives

Students gain the ability to:

• Discuss the principles, concepts, and goals of an intersectional feminist approach to international affairs. 
• Use gender and social inclusion frameworks to examine disparities in opportunities and experiences across various topics in international affairs. 
• Critically evaluate international and domestic laws and policies, and humanitarian and development initiatives through an intersectional gender lens. 
• Propose improvements to existing laws, policies and initiatives from an intersectional gender perspective.
