Professor Chacko received Bachelor's and Master's degrees in geography from the University of Calcutta in India. She also obtained a graduate degree in Public Health and a Ph.D. in geography from UCLA. Dr. Chacko has taught geography at various institutions including Loreto College in Calcutta, UCLA in Los Angeles, and the George Washington University. She has conducted field work for her research projects in India, Ethiopia, Malaysia, Singapore and the United States. Prof. Chacko was named U.S. Professor of the Year from the District of Columbia in 2006 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. She is the recipient of a Fulbright scholarship to research the integration of different streams of Indian immigrants in Singapore (Fall, 2013). Dr. Chacko is the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences.
