Bloc Voting for Electoral Accountability

Elliott School Assistant Professor of Political Science and International Affairs Alicia Cooperman examines how citizen hold local politician accountable in her article: “Block Voting For Electoral Accountability.” Published in the September 2023 edition of the American Political Science Review, the article argues, “…that citizens, especially through neighborhood associations, can use bloc voting as a bottom-up, grassroots strategy to pressure politicians for public services.” Further, it highlights, “…the interaction of collective action and electoral institutions for accountability and public service provision.”
