Shawn Raymond is a partner at Susman Godfrey LLP in Houston, Texas. He focuses on all types of heavyweight commercial litigation. Lawdragon repeatedly has named him one of the 500 Leading Lawyers in America and called him “that rare attorney who is as noted for his goodness as for his courtroom prowess.”

Recognizing Shawn’s “goodness,” the Houston Astros named him a “Hometown Hero” for going “over and beyond and performing extraordinary acts within his community.” And the mayor of Houston even proclaimed a “Shawn Raymond Day” to honor his decades of community service. Shawn was the first man elected as Board Chair of the Houston Area Women’s Center, an organization supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence. He now serves on the school board for KIPP Texas Public Schools, which serves more than 30,000 students in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.

Shawn’s commitment to justice pre-dates his work as a lawyer. After graduating from the Elliott School, he joined Teach for America to teach high school for two years in Sunflower County, Mississippi, where he also coached the varsity football team to the state playoffs. While at UT Law—where he was the Texas Law Review’s Managing Editor—Shawn co-founded the Sunflower County Freedom Project, which uses the history and spirit of the civil rights movement to provide educational and leadership opportunities to at-risk teenagers living in the Mississippi Delta. The Freedom Project Network now has expanded into the Mississippi towns of Meridian and Rosedale.

Shawn and his wife, Alicia, are the proud parents of “The Four Ls”: Lyle, Lyndon, Liam, and Louis.
