Rebecca Murphy

Professor Rebecca Murphy is a Professorial Lecturer in the Elliott School for International Affairs. She joined George Washington University in 2021 while also serving as an Adjunct Professor teaching International Relations and Contemporary Diplomacy in the Department of Political Science at Columbia University. 

Outside of academia, Rebecca is an independent political risk consultant, advising international clients on decision-making in complex political environments and providing forward-looking guidance that bridges political developments and business planning. She previously led Fiserv's Geopolitical Risk and Analysis team for 12 years, advising and briefing C-suite and board officers on political developments influencing international supply chain planning, resiliency, joint ventures, and market entry. She began her private sector career at JP Morgan Chase in 2012 after serving for five years as a defense and foreign policy advisor to the Government of Canada.

She is currently leading a research project on the Defense Security Resilience Bank.

She received her B.A. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of Toronto and earned her M.Phil and Ph.D. in International Relations from Columbia University.
