Matthew F. Calabria is a Lecturer in the Security Policy Studies program at the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs and a former Director for Planning and Operations in the Office of the National Cyber Director at the White House. Dr. Calabria has also served as a Cybersecurity Advisor for the U.S. Department of Energy after nearly 15 years of public service in the federal government. His research interests encompass U.S. grand strategy and strategic competition, as well as intelligence and military operational art and science. A finalist for the federal government’s coveted Galileo Award for bold, innovative thinking in 2024 and 2023, Dr. Calabria has published extensively in leading scholarly journals, including Survival, The Washington Quarterly, Proceedings, and The SAIS International Affairs Review. Dr. Calabria earned a Doctor of International Affairs degree from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, from where he also earned a Master of International Public Policy. Previously, he earned a Master of Science degree in Strategic Intelligence from National Intelligence University, and Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in International Affairs from George Washington University. He is also certified in Public Leadership from Brookings Executive Education and in Cybersecurity from Cornell University.
