Dr. Matthew F. Calabria is a part-time Professor at the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs. Dr. Calabria also serves as a Cybersecurity Advisor for the U.S. Department of Energy after nearly 15 years of public service in the federal government. His research interests range from U.S. grand strategy and strategic competition to intelligence and military operational art and sciences. Along with a passion for studying global trends in geopolitics, he is also an expert on bridging differences between the public and private sectors to create international partnerships to solve global problems—evidenced by his earning a finalist spot for the federal government’s coveted Galileo Award for bold, innovative thinking in 2023. A proven strategic thinker, Dr. Calabria has published extensively, including for leading scholarly publications such as The Washington Quarterly, Proceedings, The SAIS International Affairs Review, The International Affairs Review, and The Naval War College Review. Dr. Calabria earned a Doctor of International Affairs degree from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, from where he also earned a Master of International Public Policy. Previously, Professor Calabria earned a Master of Science degree in Strategic Intelligence from National Intelligence University and Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in International Affairs from George Washington University. Professor Calabria is also certified in Public Leadership from Brookings Executive Education and in Cybersecurity from Cornell University.
