Edi Jurkovic, PhD, is a native of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He graduated from the Yugoslav Military Academy in Belgrade, Serbia, and was commissioned as a military officer in the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. As an officer, he held various positions of leadership and command. In 2011, Edi resigned his commission and moved to the US, where he embarked first on a Master’s degree program, which he completed in 2013, and then a PhD, which he received in 2021 at the Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution, George Mason University (GMU), Virginia.

During his time at the university, he worked as Knowledge Management Assistant, Research and Teaching Assistant, and Graduate Lecturer and Adjunct Faculty member at GMU, George Washington University, and the University of Georgia in Tbilisi. Prior to his graduate studies, he was actively engaged in planning, organizing, and teaching courses at various educational levels.

In recent years, he has taught the following courses:

  • International Affairs Research methodology (IAFF 3172)
  • Conflict and Conflict Resolution (IAFF 2101)
  • Conflict and Our World (CONF101)

Edi has a strong interest in data analysis as part of research methods, as well as social injustice in international relations.

During his career, he was honored with various awards, recognitions, and citations, most recently the State Department’s individual Franklin Award for outstanding initiative, creativity, and judgment. 

Edi and his wife of 10 years are the proud parents of twin girls Elena and Ana (age 8), Mia (age 6), and Olivia (age 4). In his (limited) spare time, Edi enjoys cooking, woodworking, and fixing and building household items.
