Adam Wunische

Adam Wunische is a Research Scientist at CNA. His research and teaching focus on intelligence analysis and analytic methods, military strategy and effectiveness, political violence, Afghanistan, and military intervention.

Previously, Wunische served as a Senior Analyst with the Afghanistan War Commission and as a military analyst and analytic methodologist with the Central Intelligence Agency, where he covered the Taliban, Afghan security forces, and security issues in Afghanistan and South Asia. He served in U.S. Army intelligence from 2005 to 2010, including two deployments to Afghanistan in support of 3rd Special Forces Group.

Wunische is the author of Unwinnable Wars: Afghanistan and the Future of American Armed Statebuilding and has published research and commentary on military strategy, intelligence, political violence, and analytic methods. His work has appeared in publications including The Washington Quarterly, War on the Rocks, The New Republic, The National Interest, and The Journal of Political Science Education. He received his PhD in Political Science from Boston College in 2021.
