Jane Henrici

Jane M. Henrici, PhD, is an economic anthropologist with wide-ranging experience as an international development consultant in addition to that as a professorial lecturer in the Elliot School of International Affairs at George Washington University. She has worked for over 20 years across both rural and urban contexts within South and North America and the Caribbean; North, East, and West Africa; West and South Asia and Eurasia; and Small Island States of the Pacific. Her primary expertise helps development programs, projects, and project designs address equity issues related to gender, disability status, and ethnicity or culture. She adds to that her professional experience in climate change adaptation and related disaster-focused research and planning. Dr. Henrici’s most recent projects and publications are on increasing inclusion and reducing disparity; protecting health and food security and biodiversity; and good governance for dealing with climate change. She has provided analysis and actionable recommendations on intersectional issues in economic empowerment; private-public partnerships in small-business development within sustainable tourism; migration and displacement; housing and transportation; health care and coverage; poverty policy; education and training; water, sanitation, and hygiene; political participation; and local activism and social networks. Her work has included mainstreaming programs and policies; published reports, toolkits, books, and articles; and co-producing project designs for governmental, corporate, and foundation funding. Dr. Henrici is also a member of the UNDRR Women and Gender Stakeholder Group, working with women's organizations worldwide to improve UN Sustainable Development Policies and the UN Disaster Risk Reduction platform. Her doctorate in socioeconomic anthropology and post-doctorate in public policy provide the foundation for her expertise in qualitative methods and extensive experience in survey and mixed methods. Dr. Henrici is a native speaker of English, is professionally fluent in Spanish, and has advanced ability in French.
