Karen E. Farrell is a Professorial Lecturer of International Affairs at the George Washington University. She began teaching at the Elliott School in 2021 as a discussion section leader in the SPS program, and has taught the online U.S. National Security seminar since 2023.
Dr. Farrell’s research focuses on bargaining in war, military strategy, territorial acquisition in conflict, and the political implications of battlefield outcomes. Prior to her employment at GWU, she managed strategy for candidates in local electoral politics. Dr. Farrell has an AB in Politics and a Certificate in Italian from Princeton University, and an MA and PhD in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia. She has taken part in GWU’s Teaching Network for Early Career Faculty and in the Course Design Institute.
