Research Professor and Director of the Digital Trade and Data Governance Hub Susan Aaronson lends her expertise to two new co-authored publications with Research Associate Michael Moreno.
Published by the Centre for International Governance and Innovation, "AI-Enabled Manufacturing Will Change How, When and Where Goods Are Made," explores how AI-enabled manufacturing is reshaping global production dynamics and risks and driving a new era of overcapacity. The analysis explores how these technologies could lead to such overcapacity, alter which countries trade and how they produce their goods, and change which firms dominate markets. In examining another aspect of AI, Aaronson and Moreno ask: "Do Chatbot Developers Act Responsibly toward their Users," for the Balsillie Paper Series. Noting that many AI firms underscore their responsibility and responsiveness, the authors illustrate how companies struggle to incorporate responsible AI into practice and product. Lack of understanding as to how AI systems make decisions, the uniqueness of rapidly evolving AI interactions, and the absence of an internationally accepted definition or protocol for responsible behavior all underpin this disconnect.
