Background

With over twenty years of experience in the field of higher education administration, Lisa Stephenson brings a wealth of knowledge to her position as Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Student Services at the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University. In this position, Dr. Stephenson oversees graduate and undergraduate curricular matters for the Elliott School and conducts regular evaluations of the school's programs and courses. Dr. Stephenson oversees the offices of Graduate Admissions, International Programs, Graduate Student Career Development, Academic Advising and Student Services, and the Global Capstone program. Dr. Stephenson also manages the professional skills-based course curriculum for all Elliott School graduate students.

Prior to assuming her current position, Dr. Stephenson was Director of Graduate Student Career Development, an organization that supports over six thousand Elliott School Graduate Students and Alumni in the Washington area and around the world. Over the past six years, she has been awarded grants from the Association of Professional Schools in International Affairs (APSIA) to develop internships in South Africa, Latin America, and China, and she has worked with other APSIA career professionals to develop similar internship programs in Brussels, Belgium. As a Rotary International Fellow, she conducted research at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand.

Dr. Stephenson has a Ph.D. in Education Policy, Planning and Administration from the University of Maryland. She also has her M.A. in International Studies and Cross Cultural Communication from the University of Oregon and her B.A. in French Language and Culture from the University of Wyoming.
