Jonathan Forney lives and breathes applied research. He has been a Lecturer in International Affairs at George Washington University since 2016, where he mentors capstone students in International Development Studies as they find and execute a pro-bono research consultancy.

Jonathan's academic research focuses on non-state armed groups in sub-Saharan Africa. He has performed extended field research in Sierra Leone, and has written extensively and published on civil militias in Sierra Leone and South Sudan. Jonathan also works full time in applied research, leading a team of research methodologists and statisticians within an Africa-focused research firm called Forcier.

As the Global Director of Research at Forcier, Jonathan oversees the technical aspects of an 8 million dollar portfolio of survey research, stretching across Africa and the Middle East.
